Huskies’ general manager’s faith in his team was spot on, despite a pair of losses during the first home games of the season on October 7 and 8.

The team was disappointed to lose two games in a row, the first games at home, GM Jeremy Clothier said, but he had faith that the Huskies could turn things around.

The Huskies started out strong in the October 13 game against the North Peace Navigators, with #20 Thomas Loewen, scoring the first goal barely 2 minutes into the first period, assisted by #13 Jaden Loverin and #8 Justin Brownlee.

The second period started out in similar style, with #18 Ashton Underhill scoring at 14:55, assisted by #23 Brandon Modde and #16 Jordan LaGreca. Chase London picked up the third goal of the game with six minutes left in the second, assisted by #19 MacCoy Willms and #20 Thomas Loewen, bringing the score to 3-0 for the Huskies.

The Navigators finally made it onto the board 40 seconds into the third period, when #7 Carter White managed to slip the puck past Huskies’ goalie Daniel Sturgeon. The home team answered back at 11:41 with another goal from #7 Chase London, assisted by #18 Ashton Underhill and #23 Brandon Modde, bringing the final score to 4-1 for the Huskies.

The following night, October 14, the Huskies continued their at-home winning streak, this time against the Sexsmith Vipers.

Sexsmith’s goalie, Kael Moberg, was no match for the Huskies’ determined scorers, who kept up the pressure and scored twice in the first period – #18 Ashton Underhill and #7 Chase London each scoring those goals, assisted by #26 Colby Busche and #23 Brandon Modde.

Colby Busche scored the first goal of the second period with eight minutes left, assisted by #20 Thomas Loewen and #4 Connor Cozens. Sexsmith’s #18 Chase Favot answered that goal with 2:48 left in the period. The Huskies were determined to maintain a big lead and scored twice more in the last 30 seconds of the period – #16 Jordan LaGreca and #28 Nathan Brownlee making those shots with assists from #20 Thomas Loewen, #14 Sam Loewen; #11 Tanner McCracken and #13 Jaden Loverin.

This brought the score at the end of the second period to 5-1 for the Huskies.

Period 3 saw #23 Brandon Modde getting the first goal, assisted by #16 Jordan LaGreca, at 17:56. The Huskies cemented their win with four minutes left in the game when #19 MacCoy Willms, assisted by #18 Ashton Underhill and #26 Colby Busche to bring the final score to 7-1 for the Huskies.

A third win at home on October 20, brings the Huskies up to third place in the Northwest Junior Hockey League.

The Beaverlodge Blades put up a good fight on Friday night, but the Huskies managed to break through their defenses several times. While the first period remained scoreless, in the second #10 Grayden Alexander scored two goals, assisted by #7 Chase London and #2 Ian Foster on the first goal; and #14 Sam Loewen on the second.

Both teams battled hard during the third period, racking up a lot of penalties for a variety of infractions, including Misconduct, Gross Misconduct and Checking to the Head penalties from the visiting Blades. With 42 seconds left in the third, #19 MacCoy Willms completed the shut out of the Blades with a final goal, assisted by #23 Brandon Modde and Goalie Daniel Sturgeon, for a final score of 3-0 to the Huskies.
