The Peace River Regional District and School District 60 board each held elections this past week to solidify their executive for the coming year.

The PRRD saw some changes at their board meeting last week, when Area C Director Brad Sperling was elected Chair, a position he held earlier in his years on the board. Area D Director Leonard Hiebert, the previous chair was elected Vice Chair. Hiebert is also the new chair of the Electoral Area Directors Committee, replacing Area E Director Dan Rose.

“During my six-year tenure, I bring experience, knowledge and relationships. I’m a firm believer that there needs to be constant and more interaction from the chair to the directors, but even more important there needs to be direction from those directors to the Chair so that we can realize our visions and our goals,” said Sperling. “And still be flexible enough nowadays to adjust and tackle any new things that come to us.”

“I’ve had the honour of sitting with cultural safety, our C to C meetings with our First Nations neighbours, which we need to get back to – not just because we have common issues to work on, but mainly because it’s the right thing to do. We are neighbours.”

School District 60 Board of Trustees held their elections also, with Board Chair Helen Gilbert retaining her role by acclamation. Madeleine Lehmann was elected Vice Chair, also by acclamation, as no one else put their names forward for these positions.

Other board roles required a vote; Ida Campbell, Bill Snow and Nicole Gillis put their names forward for the role of Provincial Councillor, with Ida Campbell of Area 4 receiving the most votes.

Bill Snow of Area 5 was elected Alternate Provincial Councillor. Nicole Gillis and Madeleine Lehmann put their names forward for the role of BCSPEA representative, with Madeleine Lehmann of Area 4 receiving the most votes. The Alternate BCSPEA representative is Thomas Whitton of Area 5.
