The North Peace Historical Society, Stage North Theatre Society, the District Parents Advisory Council and 16 school Parent Advisory Councils in the North Peace benefitted from the Community Gaming Grants given out by the Provincial government last month.

Arts and culture programs throughout the province were the beneficiaries of a portion of $18.2 million dollars in funding provide by through the grants. Of that, the North Peace Historical Society received $20,000 and Stage North Theatre Society received $24,000.

Heather Sjoblom, curator of the Fort St. John North Peace Museum said the Community Gaming Grant helps the Historical Society operate the Museum’s preservation and display services program.

“We use the funds to share the history of Fort St. John and the North Peace through exhibits, educational events and programs, and online educational initiatives,” Sjoblom said.

The funds also go towards preserving and presenting artefacts, insuring, and maintaining the facility, paying property taxes, and promoting the museum and archives.

“There are very few operational grants out there, so we are very thankful that this grant helps us to continue to preserve and share local history,” she said.

Parent Advisory Councils in the province shared in $11.2 million, with North Peace Secondary School’s PAC receiving the largest chunk of funding at $25,660, with Dr. Kearney Middle School’s PAC next at $12,600.
