A community favourite for decades in Fort St. John and surrounding area, the Alaska Highway News’ People’s Choice Awards brought recognition to a myriad of local businesses, big and small, during the annual event.

With the closure of the Alaska Highway News in October 2023, and the simultaneous release of the final slate of most popular people and businesses in North Peace, some feared that would be the end. Not so. Fort St. John’s own MooseFM, in partnership with REMAX Realty had taken up the tradition of the People’s Choice Awards, renamed it the North Peace People’s Choice Awards and voting is now open for the regions favourites.

As you know, the People’s Choice Awards cover everything from Best Breakfast to Best Farm Equipment Dealer to Best Radio Station and Best Hair Salon – in the more specific individual categories, one can choose Best Local Politician, Best Volunteer and Best Hairdresser for example. There are so many categories to choose from it boggles the mind, but these are what the Alaska Highway News came up with way back when, and kudos to MooseFM for taking on a much-loved tradition, and to REMAX for making it possible.

To take part, go to MooseFM’s People’s Choice Awards and vote for your favourites . . . and don’t forget to vote for the Best Local Journalist – apparently there’s an option for that so don’t skip that page! Voting closes on May 10 and the winners will be announced on June 10. Nominees with the most nominations in each category will be the winners.
