North Peace residents again displayed their unending generosity to the community on Saturday as the 25th annual Bluey Day Fundraiser raised $120,000 for the Cancer Diagnostics and Treatment Fund of the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation.
“Bluey Day is not only about raising funds for cancer diagnostics and treatment, it’s about much more,” FSJ Hospital Foundation executive director, Kelly Amboe said.
Thirty-five people turned out to Centennial Park on May 25 to have their heads shaved or donate their hair to the BC Wigs for Kids Program. Hair Bin staff generously donated their time to carry out the shaving.
“Bluey Day builds awareness, fosters community and provides an opportunity for individuals to show their support. It’s about everyday people making a difference in the community we call home,” Amboe said.

Money raised from this year’s Bluey Day fundraiser will be used to purchase an MRI 18 Body Coil. This piece of equipment aids in the detection of various pathologies and improves patient care through enhanced MRI images. The addition of this coil is anticipated to reduce the scan time in the Fort St. John Hospital’s imaging department by 25 percent and improve the diagnosis of approximately 3,500 cases each year.
Since the first Bluey Day in 1999, more than 900 participants have raised some $2.3 million. The FSJ Hospital Foundation is taking Bluey Day 2024 donations until June 1. For more information, please visit the Hospital Foundation’s Bluey Day web page.
