Another Peace River North resident, who has gone above and beyond in service to her community has been honoured this month with a Coronation Medal, presented by MLA Dan Davies on behalf of the Governor-General.

Fort Nelson resident and Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Councillor Lorraine Gerwing received her Coronation Medal in a ceremony in Fort Nelson on September 15, recognizing her contribution to her community through healthcare advocacy and dedicated service to the community.

In a Facebook post, NRRM said that Gerwing’s “consistent commitment and advocacy has made a significant difference in our community’s well-being and progress. Her work embodies the qualities celebrated by this award.”

Following King Charles III coronation in May 2023, the Prime Minister announced that 30,000 Coronation Medals were going to be awarded to those had made significant contributions to the country, a province, territory, region or community or whose achievements had brought benefit to the honour of Canada.

“The King Charles III Coronation Medals are a visible and tangible way to recognize outstanding individuals of all ages, and all walks of life, who have made a difference in their community,” said Davies.

“We have so many deserving people in Peace River North, but the people who have been awarded this medal are truly special.”

Gerwing joins Fort St. John’s Margaret Little, Connie Surerus and Edward Stanford who received their medals on September 5.

The four people in Peace River North who received these medals are a benefit to their communities, province and country. They are involved in bettering the lives of everyone around them, says Davies.

“I would like to thank these four people for all that they do, this recognition is well-deserved by them all.”
