Here’s a round of up the stories published in The Broken Typewriter for February 23 to 28.
The top story this week was Fort St. John City Council learning that the budget is now balanced. Included in that article was more council happenings, including Councillor Trevor Bolin’s recommendation that the city Buy Canadian as much as possible, and the 15 Years of Service Award given to Jessica Harrison of the Community Services Department.
In more City news, the City of Fort St. John experienced a “cyber incident” on Tuesday, which resulted in many systems, including phones and email, being down for most of the week. Email is still not working, but the city says any emails will be delivered, eventually, once everything is up and running again. As of writing, no cause for the incident has been released, but officials will update the community again on Monday.
Next up, the Peace River Regional District’s Regional Growth Strategy enters its final phase, with a draft RGS completed and being presented to municipalities throughout the PRRD for approval.
Brad Brain, in his Smart Money column, discussed Warren Buffett’s principles of investing, a strategy that Brain calls The Essence of Buffett.
Finally, also from Monday’s city council meeting, Capital Projects Manager Jim Stewart recommended that the council opt for a new procurement method for the construction of the replacement water reservoir on 106 Street. This pilot method would allow more flexibility in design for the city and also help ward off any adverse cost and supply chain effects from potential US tariffs.
