City of Fort St. John launches revamped website –
Following the cyber attack which knocked the City of Fort St. John’s website out for a couple of weeks while they worked to get to the bottom of the attack and restore services, the city took the opportunity to redesign its website.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 10, the city said, “the refreshed site offers a modern look, improved functionality, and a more user-friendly experience for residents, businesses and visitors.”
Some features of the updated website include – enhanced accessibility, to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 Level AA standards; streamlined navigation and content, with simplified menus and concise information; improved search capabilities; new program and activity search tool, so users can easily discover City-run recreation and cultural programs; a responsive design; an expanded Community Calendar, with a user-friendly platform for local businesses and community groups to promote their events; an Open Source platform to allow for easier updates and future enhancements; and multi-lingual support, with new translation options to better serve the community.
The city warns that users may encounter minor issues as they continue the transition to the new platform.
89 Avenue construction begins –
Starting today – Monday, April 14 – 89 Avenue between 81A Street and 86 Street will be closed, open to local traffic only as crews begin construction on the second phase of the 89 Avenue project.
Underground utilities are being replaced, the road will be reconstructed and sidewalks and streetlighting will be installed along 89 Ave., between 78A Street and 86 Street. This is a continuation of the project which began in 2023.
Local contractor Knappett Industries has been awarded the $7.2 million contract.
Detours will be in place, using 93 Avenue and 78A Street. The city asks that motorists obey traffic control personnel and signage and remember to slow down near the crews for everyone’s safety.

BC Transit has adjusted Route 2 Southside and Route 4 Southeast, and temporary bus stops will be placed along the new route.
