News from Hudson’s Hope and Taylor dominated The Broken Typewriter’s pages this week

Another week has come and gone, and Election Day is upon us tomorrow. Will we be lead through the next four years by a Prime Minister who wants us dependent on the government and foraging food, unable to afford groceries (according to the Privy Council report exposed by Blacklock’s Reporter), or one who wants to unleash our prosperity and make Canada an economic force to be reckoned with, and thus not let the likes of Donald Trump kick us around? In less than 36 hours, we’ll know the answer.

But in the meantime, let’s look back at what made the news at The Broken Typewriter this week.

I finally wrote the All-Candidates debate editorial, in which I discussed my impressions of the candidates. They all seemed like nice, earnest people, but as far as first impressions go, they were rather “meh”. And it appears many of you out there agreed with me, with that story getting the most likes and views this week.

Hudson’s Hope is looking to improve their emergency communications in and around the town, with the installation of a new repeater for the P25 communications system.

In Taylor, the Library is seeking more space for expanded programming and hopes to use the old Medical Clinic building to do so. As well, the First Nations Land Acknowledgement Development Committee at last settled on a land acknowledgement worthy of the community, after more than a year of work and consultation with local First Nations.

Brad Brain again focussed on bear markets in his Smart Money column, urging investors not to fear bear markets which are a natural part of the financial cycle, and “as common as dirt.”

Coming up this week:

In addition to Election Day on Monday – polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. – Fort St. John City Council is holding their Committee of the Whole meeting (at 2 p.m.) and their Regular Council meeting at 3 p.m. in council chambers. You can find those agendas here.

On Tuesday, the Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Creating Energy Conference at the Pomeroy Hotel, featuring speakers on a variety of different aspects of the energy sector.

On Thursday, May 1, the Peace River Regional District holds its regular meetings, including Committee of the Whole, the Regular Board meeting, and the Regional Hospital Board meeting, beginning at 10 a.m. in Dawson Creek and live on Facebook. The agendas can be found here.

Stage North’s latest play, Bluebirds, opens at North Peace Secondary School at 7:30 p.m., on May 1 and runs though May 3. Tickets are $20 at the door.

The Broken Typewriter will be posting key results of the election as they happen tomorrow night and on Tuesday morning. Good luck to all who are running for parliament, and may the best candidates win!
